To further enhance international students’ awareness of fire safety and their emergency response capabilities, and to promote a shift from knowledge acquisition to practical competence, the International College, in collaboration with the Security and Campus Management Office, organized a series of fire safety education activities in April 2026. Through a combination of “online self-assessment, thematic lectures, and hands-on drills,” the program effectively strengthened campus safety awareness and attracted enthusiastic participation from international students.
As an important preparatory component, an online fire safety quiz was held from April 16 to 21. Designed in a “learning + self-assessment” format, the quiz covered topics such as fire prevention, emergency evacuation, and basic firefighting knowledge. Students actively participated and were able to identify and fill knowledge gaps in a convenient and engaging way, thereby building a solid foundation for the subsequent offline practical sessions.
On the afternoon of April 29, with the professional support of the Security and Campus Management Office, a fire safety lecture was successfully held in Room 307 of the International Building. The lecture provided a systematic overview of fire mechanisms, common hazard identification, daily fire prevention measures, emergency escape skills, and the proper use of firefighting equipment. Drawing on typical case studies, the speaker highlighted key safety concerns closely related to international students’ daily lives, such as electrical safety in dormitories and safe practices in kitchen use, making abstract concepts more concrete and relatable. The session was highly interactive, with active student engagement and in-depth understanding achieved through Q&A discussions.

Following the lecture, the event moved into the practical training phase under the guidance of staff from the Security and Campus Management Office. Teachers and students participated in hands-on fire extinguisher drills, learning the standard operating procedures through a step-by-step approach of explanation, demonstration, and practice. By operating extinguishers in simulated fire scenarios, students effectively overcame initial anxiety and significantly improved their ability to respond to early-stage fires.

The smoke evacuation drill that followed brought the event to a climax. In a simulated fire environment created with professional equipment, students were guided by staff to navigate through low-visibility, smoke-filled conditions and complete an emergency evacuation. By practicing proper techniques—such as staying low, covering the mouth and nose, and evacuating in an orderly manner—participants gained a realistic understanding of emergency response procedures and strengthened their self-protection awareness.

This series of activities, integrating learning, practice, and application, effectively bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-life skills. Through close collaboration and careful organization, the International College and the Security and Campus Management Office ensured the smooth implementation of the program. Participating students noted that the combination of online self-assessment and offline drills not only deepened their understanding of fire risks, but also equipped them with practical self-rescue and mutual aid skills, enhancing their confidence and composure in emergency situations.

Fire safety is of paramount importance, and prevention must be put into action. Moving forward, the International College will continue to work with relevant departments to innovate safety education approaches, promote regular, targeted, and diversified safety training, and continuously improve international students’ safety awareness and emergency response capabilities, contributing to a safe and harmonious campus environment.
