Q1. If I'm a Chinese citizen with permanent residence of a foreign country, am I eligible to apply?
A: No, you are not eligible. Only non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport are eligible.
Q2. I'm now working in China. Can I apply for graduate programs in USTC?
A: You can apply, but you have to submit documents showing your status as an on-post employee and permission of release when applying, and if get admission you need submit demission certificate. International students cannot work with student visa and we only recruit full-time students for our graduate programs.
Q3. I'm now studying in China and will graduate in July of 2025. Can I apply for graduate programs in USTC?
A: If you are currently pursuing master's/bachelor's study and will graduate by July, 2025, you can apply for doctoral/master's programs. You need to provide Pre-graduation Certificate to ensure that you will complete your study and obtain official degree certificate by July of 2025.
Q4. I'm now in the last year of my program (not in China) and will graduate soon. Can I apply?
A: You can apply as long as you can provide a Pre-graduation Certificate to ensure that you will complete your study and obtain official degree certificate by July of 2025.
Q5. I graduated recently (not from China) and waiting for the official degree certificate. Can I apply?
A: You can apply as long as you can obtain official degree certificate by July of 2025.
Q6. I am currently a registered master student in another Chinese university; can I apply for the master's program? I am currently a registered PhD student in another Chinese university; can I apply for the doctoral program?
A: You can apply, but please be noted that you cannot register in both universities, nor can you apply for CAS-ANSO scholarship. “Applicant currently pursuing a master's degree at any university/institution in China is NOT eligible for the master's program of CAS-ANSO scholarship. Applicant currently pursuing a doctoral degree at any university/institution in China is NOT eligible for the doctoral program of CAS-ANSO scholarship.”
Q7. I don't have passport yet. Is it necessary for application?
A: It's OK if you don't have passport yet at the time of application, but you should get one as soon as possible. When you get admission, the passport information will be required as one of the admission documents.
Q8. My passport will expire soon. Can I still use it to apply for the graduate program?
A: The passport used for application should still be valid for one more year, because if you get admission, the passport information will be required for making admission documents and applying for visa in August.
Q9. Is there any scholarship available for graduate programs?
A: Yes. Excellent applicants may apply for USTC Fellowship, which covers tuition fee, insurance fee, monthly stipend (up to 7,000 RMB for PhD students and up to 3,000 RMB for master students) and accommodation subsidy.
