To promote academic exchange among international students and showcase their research achievements, the First International Student Academic Poster Exhibition of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), organized by the Department of Academic Affairs of the Foreign Students Association and strongly supported by the International College, recently concluded all evaluation procedures. The offline exhibition and award ceremony were successfully held on the morning of December 31, 2025 in the International Building, marking the successful conclusion of the event.

The exhibition adopted a rigorous two-round evaluation process. In the first round, student representatives from various schools, departments and institutes conducted a preliminary review of the submitted posters, focusing on academic innovation and impact, research content, and presentation quality. A total of 18 posters were shortlisted for the final round. The second round combined public voting with expert evaluation. The public voting phase received a total of 7,086 valid votes, reflecting strong interest and support from faculty and students for international students’ research work. In parallel, ten professors from the Teaching Committee were invited to conduct professional evaluations. Based on a comprehensive assessment of public voting results and the average expert scores, the “Top 10 Academic Posters” were selected.

The offline exhibition and award ceremony took place on the morning of December 31. The event opened with welcoming remarks by International College. In her speech, Ms. Shen Yizhu, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation, highly commended the participating international students for their active engagement in scientific research and their solid academic performance. She encouraged international students to further strengthen their research training during their studies at USTC, actively engage in interdisciplinary and cross-cultural academic exchanges, and continue to make progress through high-level research practice.

This was followed by a special lecture titled “Academic Writing: Peer-reviewed Academic Paper Writing” delivered by Timothy Dixon, a faculty member from the USTC Department of Foreign Languages. Centering on the key question of how to transform research findings into high-quality peer-reviewed journal articles, the lecture systematically introduced the essential stages from raw research to publication. Topics included strategies for structuring and articulating academic papers, aligning manuscripts with journal aims and standards, responding constructively to reviewer comments, and reflecting on the broader academic value and impact of scholarly work beyond publication. The lecture closely addressed the practical needs of international students and provided clear guidance and valuable insights for their future academic writing and publication endeavors.
