On October 31 and November 1, the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) hosted its 56th annual Sports Gala. This vibrant event brought together over a thousand students from various schools, departments, and research institutes, celebrating athleticism and camaraderie in a spirited showcase of talent and unity.

Against the backdrop of a crisp autumn campus, the opening ceremony captivated spectators with a dynamic display of energy and pride. The national flag escort team led athletes onto the field with powerful, synchronized steps, embodying the spirit of USTC's students. Among the parade formations, the international students' team stood out. Marching in unison and chanting "Hello USTC, Hello World," they radiated enthusiasm and confidence, adding a distinctive splash of color to the event.

Throughout the two-day competition, athletes pushed their limits, set new personal bests, and exemplified the passion and perseverance that define the USTC community. The international student athletes were no exception: they competed fiercely, cheered wholeheartedly for their teammates, and encouraged their opponents, fostering a spirit of sportsmanship that transcended borders.

In individual events, Temirova Akylai claimed fifth place in the women's shot put; Syeda Sadia Rubab and Hattab Hanine Chayma placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the women's 200m; and Haleema Zia secured eighth place in the women's 400m. In the men's events, Muhammad Anjum, Zeeshan Khan, and Saqib Ali placed fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively, in the graduate shot put competition, while Abdullahi Abdulhadi took eighth in the 200m, and Kaleab Yitagessu Tilahun placed eighth in the 1500m.

In the team events, the international students continued to excel. They secured first place in the fortune ball competition, second in the long rope jumping, third in the graduate 12×50m mixed relay, sixth in the graduate drum ball competition competition, and eighth in both the men's 110m hurdles and the 4×400m relay. Overall, the international team achieved an impressive sixth-place ranking in the graduate mixed group category.

The two days of intense competition offered international students not only medals but also unforgettable memories. These experiences will continue to inspire them on their academic and personal journeys, serving as a testament to their resilience, determination, and capability.
