Suzhou, a vibrant city in Jiangsu Province with nearly 2,500 years of history, is one of China's first designated national historic and cultural cities. Known as the birthplace of Wu culture and often referred to as“Heaven on Earth,”Suzhou is also celebrated as one of China's most livable cities. 

The Suzhou Institute for Advanced Research (Hereinafter referred to as “SIAR”), jointly established by the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and the Suzhou Municipal Government, is a premier research and educational institution dedicated to advancing emerging industries. It aims to create a world-class platform for research and talent development with distinctive strengths that support both local industrial transformation and USTC's “Double First-Class” initiative. 

Since its founding, the SIAR has focused on strategic development in academic disciplines, faculty recruitment, and graduate training. In 2007 and 2011, USTC partnered with the Suzhou government to establish the School of Software Engineering and the School of Nano Science and Technology within the Institute, with more than 7,000 graduates trained to date. Over the next five years, the Institute plans to bring in 400 top-tier faculty members and researchers, with initial focus areas including Biomedical Engineering, Advanced Materials, Data Intelligence, and Business Management to meet the growing demands of Suzhou and the Yangtze River Delta region. The Institute is also actively expanding partnerships with leading international universities and research institutions. 

Occupying a spacious 738-acre campus with a total built area of 760,000 square meters, the Institute's open-design campus provides a beautiful environment, cutting-edge facilities, and exceptional research capabilities.
