Research Internship Program

The 2024 USTC Future Scientist Exchange Program (USTC FuSEP) is now open for application. The program will take the form of Summer Research from July 1st to August 25th, 2024 in Hefei, Anhui, China. With the theme of "Science and Technology for a Shared Future", the 2024 FuSEP Summer Research Program will select excellent students to work on scientific research projects in experimental teams supervised by USTC professors for 4-8 weeks. Beyond the research experience, the program offers a diverse array of activities, including enlightening lectures on academic topics, visits to national laboratories, cultural site tours, and the chance to interact with USTC student clubs.

I. Introduction

The University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) research internship program provides the opportunity for graduate students or 3rd/4th year undergraduate students to participate in research projects to gain valuable experience on a variety of cutting-edge research at USTC.

II. Program Benefits

● Enhance research capability in state-of-the-art labs under the guidance of professors at USTC

● Have a competitive edge in application for Master’s , Ph.D. and post-doctoral programs at USTC by developing relationships with faculty and students

●  Apply for free Chinese language and culture class to learn basic Chinese language and explore unique Hui culture

III. Cost

● Tuition :2,100 RMB(≈304USD) per month(undergraduate student or master student);                          2,600  RMB(≈377USD) per month(PhD student)       

● International student dormitory: 500-1,000RMB(≈73—146USD) per month depending on room type and size

● Insurance: 160 RMB(≈23USD) per month

Payment: After the admission is confirmed, we will inform the admitted applicants to pay the pre-registration fee of 500RMB(≈73USD) through online payment, and send them the admission materials. Students should pay the remaining fees in RMB cash or by card when they arrive at the school on the day of registration.

Refund: The pre-registration fee is non-refundable. After registration, all fees are non-refundable.

IV. Scholarship

USTC offers limited scholarships to outstanding students. All applicants will be evaluated.

V. Application Deadline

Applicants who apply for USTC Fellowship Level A are required to complete application procedures online during the following period:

Jan.1 — Mar.31 (for fall semester)

July1 — Sept.30 (for spring semester)

Applicants who apply for USTC Fellowship Level B, Level C or support by themselves are required to complete application procedures online at least three months before starting date to USTC.

VII. Eligibility

1. Non-Chinese citizens with a foreign passport

2. Between 18-50 years old

3. In good health

4. High school diploma or above

5. No criminal record

6. Good command of English

1. Applicants need to contact USTC profesors in related research field and obtain pre-acceptance from professors before submitting applications online.

IX. Visa, Insurance, Food and Accommodation

1. Visa

The admitted students should submit the Visa Application Form (JW202) and the admission notice to the Chinese Embassy or consulate to apply for a Chinese  Student Visa. Students must enter the country with a Student Visa and ensure that he Visa is valid during their stay in China.

2. Insurance

International students are required to purchase insurance in accordance with state regulations and school policies. Students pay the insurance fee, and USTC is responsible for purchasing the insurance.

3. Accommodation

USTC Fellowship Level A/Level B students are offered on-campus accommodation on a first-come, first-served basis. If on-campus accommodation is full, students are required to find off-campus accommodation on their own. 

USTC Fellowship Level C/self-financed students need to find off-campus  on your own but we will provide assistance to find housing. 

International students who live off campus shall register with the local police station in time. Full address and telephone number of the residence must be submitted at the time of registration.
