Wonderful events and experiences in USTC by Onyekachi Jombo

Reflecting on my experiences during my studies at USTC, I have gained tremendously in both academic and personal development. Thanks to significant research outcomes, I have been able to provide valuable insights and information to the government in areas such as research development, university affairs, and consultancy. I was honored to study under the supervision of Professor Song Wei, Dean of the School of Public Affairs at USTC, a true leader and an exceptional scholar. He is my role model to this day. I have learned a great deal from his outstanding leadership style, his thoughtful approach to complex issues, and his remarkable work ethic.

Through the rigorous training, studies, and research I experienced at USTC, I have been able to contribute—and continue to contribute—to making the world a better place for humanity. I am currently serving as a senior government consultant in Nigeria. This position has given me the opportunity to travel to 23 countries on high-level official assignments, and the count is still growing.

In 2022, I was honored to be named Best Worker of the Year. I have also secured a World Bank research grant of nearly one million dollars focused on the rehabilitation of prisons and prisoners. Additionally, I have led important delegations in signing significant contracts, the details of which may not be disclosed here.

On a personal note, I am happily married to a wonderful Chinese woman, and our marriage has been blessed with children. My wife, a pharmacist, has made significant contributions to Nigeria and the world at large. Especially during the pandemic, she played a key role in assisting the national government with the procurement and distribution of essential health supplies.

I am also the CEO of my own company, Chaoka Construction Limited. "Chaoka" is a combination of my wife's name and my own. The company procures construction materials and road-working machinery from overseas. Currently, Chaoka Construction employs about 150 people—a success I attribute, in part, to my research in areas such as human resources management, intellectual property, the Belt and Road Initiative, and the international tea business.

The University of Science and Technology of China is more than just a center of academic excellence; it is an environment where students are nurtured through a wealth of extracurricular activities, including excursions and visits to cultural sites. During my time there, I had the opportunity to visit the Chinese Court, the Anhui Museum, and Hefei No.1 High School, to name just a few. What makes USTC truly unique is that students are encouraged to contribute their ideas to creating a better and more reformed academic learning environment, one that fosters a positive transformation in society. This is one of the most distinctive and valuable experiences I had at USTC.

The memories of my time at USTC are treasures that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. From the early days of orientation to the final moments of graduation, every step was part of a larger journey that helped shape my future. And while my time as a student has come to an end, I know that the lessons I learned, the friendships I made, and the experiences I had will continue to guide me in the years to come. As I move forward in life, I carry with me the knowledge, skills, and memories that USTC has given me. I will always be proud to be a part of its legacy and will forever cherish the days I spent on its campus.
