USTC International Dragon Boat Club calls for new members

University of Science and Technology of China

Dragon boat enjoys a long history in China. It is one of the most important celebration activities of the Dragon Boat Festival, which is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month in the lunar calendar in commemoration of Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet in ancient times. Now dragon boat racing is one of the most popular and fastest-growing water sports in the world.

USTC is known for its tradition of dragon boats. Apart from Chinese students’ dragon boat teams, international students also established a dragon boat club. Back in the year 2021, our international team participated in the 2nd “Huami Cup” and achieved a good result in the final of the 200-meter race. During the pandemic, many training sessions, activities, and competitions were suspended and canceled, and that is part of the reasons why the dragon boat club was in a limbo state and needs to recruit new members now. If you are interested in the dragon boat and would like to experience the fun of this water sport, why not click the link and register to join our club?

In addition, we are also in urgent need to recruit players for an upcoming dragon boat race. That is the 1st Yangtze River Delta Universities International Students Dragon Boat Race hosted in Shanghai. Universities from Anhui, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu provinces will travel to Shanghai and compete together. And USTC, representing universities in Anhui province, is invited by the provincial education department to join the competition this time. If you are willing to be a player, please fill out the registration form via the aforementioned link before May 9. Do not worry that you have no experience in boating because none of the participating universities’ teams are professional. And International College will invite experts to provide training sessions on weekends and offer financial support for the trip to Shanghai. For us, there is more to race than a medal. It is not whether we win or lose, it is how we play the game. We appreciate the courage, cooperation, teamwork, and fun. And we wish to take advantage of the opportunity to make more friends from other universities.

Below is the information on the race:
